frequently asked questions

Will my scarf be exactly as I see it on the website?

Each of our hand woven scarves is unique, and each one is photographed individually. We make every effort to represent the colours accurately, but do be aware that the colours in our images may vary slightly depending how you are viewing them.

How soft will my scarf be?

This is always a tricky question! All our scarves are made from natural fibres, each with its own qualities and softness. The description for each scarf includes the fibre it is made from; you can check the qualities of each fibre on our yarns page.

Can I put my scarf in the washing machine?

Please don’t! With normal wear, a woolen item won’t need frequent washing. When it does, wash by hand in warm water using a gentle detergent. Squeeze out excess moisture by rolling it in a towel. Dry flat. Press lightly with a steam iron to remove any crinkles.

Each scarf will arrive with a care card giving washing instructions.

Do you use natural dyes?

We use some natural dyes, such as harakeke, which we source locally. To get the range of colours that we love, we mix our own acid dyes. These are are fixed with vinegar (the acid) and won’t run or fade.
